Mantel Piece

Mantel Piece is a hand-held sculpture.

It is to be carried, handled, slung over the shoulder, and wielded. Its texture, form, and weight are experienced through our sense of touch. It is a portable, hold-able artwork, which one can take for a daily walk in the woods and later hang over the fireplace upon returning home. One can also easily carry it when fleeing home.

War-remove it. Peace-hang it. And repeat. The cycle of this ritual is unpredictable.

It is a prop, a tool with its function undetermined.

Mantel Piece is composed through a gradual accumulation of parts around a central linear core. It grows as settlements grow around a traffic artery. It is fragmented, yet together; it is to be held, yet to be looked at.
